For millions of people, the Rose Parade is an iconic New Year’s day celebration. The parade travels through Los Angeles and features floral decorated floats where each year local flower and foliage farms are able to donate fresh florals. The 2022 Rose Parade’s theme was “Dream, Believe, and Achieve.”

This year was like no other. Olive Hill donated a variety of plants including Guzmania Hilda, Guzmania Allura, Dracaena Hawaiian Sunshine, Ferns that were featured on the float designed, constructed, and decorated by the students of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and Pomona

Despite the current shortages in both hard goods and fresh floral supplies, the Cal Poly float received almost 12,000 stems of donated flowers, foliage and plants which accounted for almost 50% of the fresh floral used on the float.

The floats theme, “Stargazers,” was inspired by well-known nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle Diddle” where cattle dream big and achieve the impossible. The float featured a beautiful meadow where the cows achieved their impossible feat by designing, testing, and using jetpacks to jump over the moon.
